WINDHOEK, NAMIBIA – 20 May 2026 – Telecom Namibia acknowledges the network challenges recently experienced in parts of the country, the impact these issues have on customers and businesses, and is actively addressing customer concerns.
We would like to reassure the public that Telecom Namibia is actively implementing an extensive network modernisation programme aimed at significantly improving service reliability, speed, and overall customer experience across the country. This forms part of Telecom Namibia’s broader commitments under its 2027 Integrated Strategic Business Plan (ISBP).
These initiatives are part of a phased, long-term strategy, and while some customers may experience intermittent disruptions during upgrade activities, these improvements are essential to delivering a more robust and future-ready network.
As part of our ongoing network modernisation efforts, Telecom Namibia is:
- Upgrading core network infrastructure to improve stability, capacity, and resilience
- This includes implementing a converged FMC Core, which will enhance network performance, strengthen connectivity, and improve service reliability nationwide.
- In partnership with SATEC, Telecom Namibia is developing a next-generation platform (OSS/BSS) aimed at delivering a seamless and unified customer experience. This will simplify billing and provide a more integrated view and management of both fixed and mobile services.
- Upgrading backup power systems (generators, batteries and solar hybrid systems) to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
- Deployment of advanced firewalls to safeguard TN and customer data.
- Modernising access technologies, including mobile and fixed broadband platforms, to support higher data speeds and growing demand,
- This includes mobile network upgrades and expansion - upgrading 2G & 3G sites to 4G and 4.5G.
- The rollout of fiber countrywide, which will deliver significantly faster data transfer speeds, improve communication and access to information, enhance business efficiency and productivity, elevate residents’ quality of life, and provide future-ready infrastructure to support sustainable growth.
- TN, through its subsidiary, Powercom has increased the number of mobile base stations by 11 new base stations and upgraded 8 sites in 2026 and is planning another 19 new sites by the end of 2026.
- Expanding coverage in underserved and high-demand areas to ensure more inclusive connectivity.
- Enhancing fibre backbone networks to strengthen national connectivity and reduce downtime.
- In it’s drive to expand fibre infrastructure, Telecom Namibia is laying new long-distance fibre routes. This also contributes to the company delivering redundant paths between key cities and regions.
- To maintain cross-border connectivity, Telecom Namibia is strengthening links to international submarine cables, improving redundancy for international bandwidth. Deploying advanced monitoring and optimisation tools to proactively detect and resolve network issues.
- Telecom Namibia’s commitment extends beyond technology through its Business Re-engineering Project, which focuses on optimising internal processes to deliver faster, more efficient, and customer-centric service experiences.
Telecom Namibia is committed to transparent and timely communication on all network developments, ensuring customers are fully informed of upgrades and service-related matters.
The company is taking deliberate steps to minimise service disruptions during network upgrades, maintaining continuity while critical improvements are implemented. Telecom Namibia, through its various customer touch points, continues to respond to customer queries and concerns.
We encourage customers experiencing service challenges to report them through our official customer service channels so they can be promptly addressed.
